I picked this up to play around with. No real collector value but I got it cheaper than a new gun and I’m guessing it’ll shoot better than most new bottom shelf rifles! Not to mention it is WAY cooler! It didn’t have a magazine so I ordered two aftermarket mags – I could have used the mag out of the M57 but why risk damaging or losing a 97 yr old original? I cleaned, oiled and tested loading/ejection with both mags. I might kill a couple of 6×6 pieces of scrap in the garage to test fire it before doing any more to it. I ordered an EGW rail, it will be here tomorrow so I can throw a scope on it and see how it shoots.

Congrats, Shawn! I enjoy shooting my M75’s even though one is a shooter and the other is not particularly collectible. Another option would be to find a receiver sight and front globe sight to get close to the “as-issued” configuration. In the case of my “shooter” I needed a riser for the front sight. The aftermarket magazines work fine for me, sometimes the lips need a light polish to facilitate smooth loading.
Have fun!

Thanks Mike, I’m excited about it. I bought the M47 with receiver sight and just added a 17A front, I’m stoked to try it out. This is the test bed to determine if my old eyeballs can do it or not. I hope so because I would love to use the same setup on the M57. The 75 will wear a scope and finger are crossed that it’s accurate.
I’ll get some pics of the M47 with the new sights soon.

I’m pretty sure they can. Do you have aperture inserts for the 17A? They’re the only advantage of using any globe sight. If you’ve never used an ap sight before, may I point out that it should be large enough to see plenty of light around the bull, not just slightly larger in dia as some believe.
I hope you bought Wisner mags–every one I have is 100% reliable.

I bought a Lyman 17a new, it came with 8 inserts, and I bought a rear .040″ and the rifle already has a ~.070″ rear peep so I have several options to experiment with.
The mags are 5 round but I can’t remember the brand off the top of my head but they cycled fine, just a little tight inserting and releasing. Hopefully high round count will remedy that!
