I bought this 1911 Model 1890 (in .22 Winchester Auto) correction, WRF; made rifle with a P/Oval proofed Model 90 Barrel.  I’ve read here that the P/Oval barrel was sold to an outside source as a replacement barrel for installation.  I payed $500 for it.

Luckily for you, you’re wrong about the chambering, because .22 WRF is still in production.  Replaced brl or not, $500 is a good buy–it’s been yrs since I’ve seen one that cheap.

Timothy,

Don’t get confused with the .22 WRF, (Winchester Rim Fire, developed 1890), and the .22 Winchester Automatic,(Developed in 1903, specifically for the Win. 1903, semi auto, only).

In your post, it sounds like you only made a misprint, with the auto comment, as you clearly posted WRF to Clarence.

Two completely different .22 caliber rounds. Just trying to help clarify and not start any arguments. Nice find, Enjoy your model 1890. Smile

Is the proof PW Oval alone or is there a normal PW as well? That determines if it was factory done replacement or outside of factory replacement.

The receiver is marked Oval/PW; the barrel is marked Oval/P.

It definitely has a Mail Order replacement barrel not installed by Winchester.
