This one, SN 128172, started out as a POS old standard rifle which I had seen on the Gun Value Board about 11 months ago. Now it shows up on Steve Barnett’s site via Guns International as a spanking new (ANIB) looking “Shot Only” configuration with a/the box to make it all so much worth $6500 asking price!!! How do these guys sleep at night? Save this serial number guys!! Be looking for it down the road.

Michael,
Thanks again for both the Model 61 survey AND the whistleblower updates, both are extremely appreciated!

has anyone contacted/called out Steve Barnett on his……um…..oversight…….
I thought I might just leave it out there for a while for advertisement “value.” You know the “I’m happy to rip you off and sell fake guns”

Are these barrels counterfeit or factory barrels that someone is faking a standard gun into a rare shot rifle?
Any idea on who might be doing these conversions because they’re really screwing up the market on 61s and honest people are getting hurt thanking they have a rare original when in fact they don’t.

Listing pulled/sold. I suspect we’ll see it again. Good eye, Michael!

Looks good to me. Other than some irregularities in the serial number I didn’t see anything that would indicate refurbishing. Only red flag for me is the box but that’s just a personal prejudice. Are they using NOS barrels for these fakes?

Mike,
I have no idea where the barrels are coming from. Most likely brand new manufacture stuff.

I as well believe there has to be some new manufacturing being done. I for one greatly appreciate all the attention that has been shared about fakes in the last few years. Not that I never gave great thought and research before, but in the last 5 years or so , I really curtail any emotions or trigger happy moments I have when at auction or buying in general. The market unfortunately seems to be flooded for a while…..

Michael,You are really doing us all a great service by calling out these fakes.
Great work.
Thanks,
Al
Al,
I am happy that all the work has the added value of not buying fakes and identifying those sellers who repeatedly handle these rifles.
