This rifle was first seen back in 2013 and at that time it looked refinished and had a funky looking caliber stamp.  Now it shows up with new wood and a LR for shot only counterbore barrel on it.  And a $3777 opening bid!!

And the “new rifle”

Michael,

I can’t believe how many fakers are out there. Thanks for keeping track of these, you are doing us collectors a great service.

Glad to help Al.  I had not found a fake 61 in more than 10 months so I was thinking that they may be slowing down.

Fakers should be flogged.

Shoot low boys. They're riding Shetland Ponies.

Still turning out high-quality work. I suspect he’s been staying busy, just haven’t spotted them yet.

Yes, thanks again for this service Michael.  I appreciate your dedication.  By the way, has this “A+” Gunbroker seller, been made aware of what he is selling?

Is there a timeline when Winchester stopped counter boring the Model 61 and went to the straight through 22 smooth bore?  RDB

Has anyone looked at the listings for the upcoming Lewis & Grant auction. There are quite a few M 61’s listed as shot only and listed as factory engraved. Any thoughts on authentication?

“Has anyone?”  As in me?  Laugh  I have not previously seen those three rifles so I can not say that they are absolutely faked.  BUT, they appear to be very similar to guns I have seen and were noted to be “non factory upgraded”
