I’ve got quite a few 1890-90’s but not one like this…..  What’s your thoughts, a very creative gunsmith or a proto-type??

Bert & 3Dub, this one also fits your serial # range and just might throw a monkey wrench in the data pile!! Laugh

It’s similar to what Schwing shows.  I saw it and emailed the fellow and called him as well, but have not heard from him as yet.  The forearm looks funky as compared to the prototypes shown in Schwing’s book, plus there is an additional screw shown on the receiver in them.  From what I can tell other than that, one would need more pictures, such as one with the lever open, then a hands on inspection would be in order for anyone so inclined to purchase it..

No monkey wrenches allowed…..lust a minor tweak.

Thanks for the link; that makes 39 chambered for 22 Long (out of just over 800 guns in the survey for less than 5%).

I thought the same thing.  Why didn’t  he show pics of the action in the open position? Should have also photographed the rifle after the stock and action had been separated from the barreled frame assembly.  Would love to know what it looks like inside

Same Rifle!  With out a doubt.  Comparing wood grain in the wrist and imperfections in the receiver.  Nice find 3Dub.

Who’d be perverse enough to convert a fast & smooth-shooting pump-action into a clunky (relatively-speaking) lever gun?  If that’s what you like, buy a Marlin.  (M ’91,’97, 39, etc.)

I must admit I was thinking it was a well-finished prototype but the serial number didn’t make sense.

What doesn’t make sense is the reason for doing it…except as an exercise in mechanical skill & ingenuity.  I love modifications that improve performance or accuracy, such as conversions of Rem RBs to under-lever operation, but this modification is altogether retrograde.

Mike

Maybe we need a new category called postotype.

I only wish Winchester had made a 92 chambered for 22 LR,  that would be a grail for me.

Thanks for the info but our survey is for late production and parts cleanup model 90s, 06s and 62/62A with serial numbers greater than 713199.

These rifles are not well-documented in existing books or online.
