I finally found an expert at a reasonable price. I have been looking for one for quiet a while but they are always way over priced. Found it at the Kerrville, Tx. show this past weekend. The rifle is in good shape also: great bore, wood and a good bit of bluing still. Hopefully this is only the first of many. I bought it from another WACA member also. Just putting it out there that it feels good to search and search for a certain gun and finally find it, Winchester hunting is my favorite huntin.

Here are some pictures. I know their not the best, far from it, but here it is.![]()
Thanks for posting the pictures. It will always be your “first” Model 1906 Expert. I like it because it is original and not messed with. Somebody loved that little rifle a lot, and they used it for what it was intended for.

Nice, unadulterated M1906’s are a very hard find. Lots have no finish, bad bores, changed sights, and whatever else they did to a lot of the M1906’s. I waited for quite a while for a nice, plain one, to show up. One day, looking over Guns Intl., there was a nice one for sale at Bromleys Guns. Under $1,000. Most nicer ones run much higher. So, I bought # 788406, PR dated 10-01-1928. When it arrived, I was pleasantly surprised to find the rifle in much better condition than the pics. Took it out and shot it at some cans. Performed beautifully as it should. So, I filled a hole in my 22 collection with a nice, excellent condition M1906 (06). It’s a keeper and looks good up against my M1890, M62 and M62-A. Big Larry
I paid 825.00 for mine. I think it is on the high-end of what the rifle is worth but to me what is so beautiful about this rifle is it, from what I can tell, is unaltered and totally original as it was when it left the PR minus some bluing. I’m really getting into the .22’s.

Well, you can always count on JWA, Bert, and several others, including me for any help you may need along the way. I don’t have JWA’s knowledge or near as many 22’s as he does, but I do have a fairly good handle on them. I managed to get one each of near every numbered model. Lots of help from my friends, JWA and Bert. If you need any advice, I am always available. Big Larry

Thank you sir I really appreciate it. Ill post some pictures of a 85′ .22 short I bought recently.
I too have an M1885 in 22 short. It has 5 special order features all listed in the factory letter. Just picked up a bunch of 22 short CCI target ammo, and I will be taking it to the range soon. It has an extra length 26″ #3 bbl. Man, that sucker is heavy. Big Larry
