I saw reference to the 1903 auto with a 20″ barrel in a thread a couple of years back and got to wondering about mine. It is ca 1913 and is set up this way.
Did they make a short and long barrel at the same time or did they start out with the short barrel and then move into the 24″?
I have to say that the balance of the 20″ looks and feels a bit nicer than the 24″, tho not complaining about the 63.
Thanks for any info

I thought it was a good chance that was the case. It sure makes me kinda want a 63 carbine but not for the money that small reduction of barrel length seems to command. Thanks for the reply.
Not so much bbl. length. 1903 Auto ammo is very expensive and usually not carried at local shops.
If you have to have a 20″ M63, buy a clunker and have a good gunsmith cut the 23″ bbl. back to 20″ and reinstall the front sight. Big Larry

I have a nice enough 63 carbine with factory receiver sights if that’s what you REALLY want. I also have a nearly new 63 rifle but it’s too nice to cut down. If you’ve read the old threads the carbine is my almost-famous “fly shooter”. 50 yards, peep sights, with a witness…and one VERY unlucky fly.
