I just picked up this 1890 Second Model 22 WRF. This is what id call 80% in the Red Book, it has not seen much use but shows its age. The bore is bright and shinny and has excellent rifling. I picked up 100 rounds of ammo today and loaded 10 in it to try it out. I have a spinning crow target set out at 30 yards and hit it 5 of 10 times. The misses were overshot and I blame that on poor eyesight and bifocals. I have owned the short and long in this model and the WRF is by far a better rifle.

Mike, I agree, The WRF is a great cartridge in the 1890. I was surprised when I realized how many other weapons were made for that round (along with the Remington version of WRF) . I’d like to get a single action revolver in it to go along with my 1890. It would make a nice display.

The second model WRF is probably my favorite also. I have several of them. I just wish the ammo was more available and less expensive.
That at is a good looking pair of Second models. The ammo I purchased was $10.50 a box so wasn’t t too hard on the pocketbook. My second go at the Target was 8 of 10 hits. I’m liking more each time I shoot it

Try to find some CCI WRF. They make 50 rnd. and 100 rnd. boxes. I recently bought some Winchester 1986 vintage for $8 a box. It’s out there you just have to look. Believe me, I have been looking since the 1960’s.
I’m with Chuck, The CCI stuff shoots very well. The Winchester limited edition ammo I have is all over the place out of the same rifle. I have a bunch of vintage stuff but don’t bother to shoot it, chances of finding some more of the same lot if it shot well would be hoping a bit too much.
Here is another site to help you find it. Winchester made the WRF in 1986 and 1994. I want to say they made another run in the 1990’s too? When these runs came out the ammo was about $30 for 250 rounds. A local shop bought crates of the stuff and would put it on sale for $20/250 rounds. I would always buy $100 worth.
