I’m new here. A friend suggested this forum for the question I have on an 1890 short I have. It was made (I believe) in 1904-1905. It has no finish left on it so it must have been used a lot. I would like to know if there is a way to determine if it was originally case hardened? the last date on the barrel is Dec 6 92 and the serial number is 235959. Its in decent shape except no finish left (it looks like it was left in the white). Shoots fairly well too. R F Harris…

Winchester ceased using the case color finishing process for the receiver frames on all models in August of 1901. The serial number on your Model 1890 indicates that it was manufactured in March 1905.
