Offlinei aquired a old winchester model 1885 in 22 short from a estate sale and would like some more info on it #129886 chambered in 22 short ,markings easly seen are top tang marked US with a flameing bomb under it bottom tang has 129886 and the letter A the barrel has a oval with a W ontop of a P thanks carl

What you have is a 3rd variation Winder Musket, and it was manufactured in the latter half of the year 1918. It is one of the 11,419 that were delivered to the U.S. Army’s Springfield Armory to be used as training firearms.
