Allways with my Pirkle, I don’t see to hight of the pin.

My 1873 make a mark on the ammunition but, there is no fire.

After 2, 3, 4 tests rearming the hammer, no fire… but big mark.

I’ve Aguila ammunition, do you think I’ve to try with CCI ?

So my question is, what is the value (the hight) of the pin ? I’ve 0.2mm or 0.00787inches.

I’m thinking adding material with welding, but I’m interested by your expertise.Confused

Thanks

.008″ is really flat for firing a rimfire. You want at least .030″

Luc, I see that you are in France.  I’m in Canada.  I’m going to reply in French too, in case that makes it easier for you.

I have a Model 73 in .22 Short also.  I checked the firing pin visually and it, too, is very short.  I can’t get an accurate measurement without pulling the gun apart but I would hazard a guess at no more than 0.010 inch.  About like yours.

Yes, absolutely.  If your firing pin is leaving an impression on the cartridge but the cartridge is failing to fire, try other ammunition.  I like easy solutions like that.

Before you add onto your firing pin with welding, you might want to look for other issues.  There could be a problem with bolt travel or excess headspace.

The ’73 doesn’t have a retractable firing pin like other .22s.  The firing pin is a fixed protrusion on the bolt face.  When the hammer strikes the bolt, the blow is transferred directly to the cartridge.  There must be enough travel in the bolt for it to be thrust forward by the blow, and pretty much zero headspace for this odd arrangement to work.

And now in French.

Bonne chance.

Peter
