Really enjoyed the article about the Bellemore family, very interesting. Amazed that one man fired so many rifles and so many millions of rounds.
Enjoyed reading about Sheriff Royal’s 1886 but didn’t much care for the sections about provenance, rarity and research. I saw the rifle in Cody and know that more space could have been dedicated to the rifle and the man who owned it. I appreciate the author’s research efforts but didn’t want to read about them.

How would you know of the author’s research efforts without reading about them? Personally I enjoyed learning how difficult research was and the effort put forth buy the author to provide the provenance required to detail the history of this fine Winchester. Only wish that others, purporting to be possessing a historic piece, would provide half the documentation this piece carries.

I didn’t mean to come across as overly critical. It’s just that this rifle was the subject of a very good display in Cody and I really enjoyed reading the info available in the display. I just figure extensive research is a given for an article like this one and was more interested in the results of the research. As the author points out, the amount of provenance found for this rifle is unusual.
