Hello Gerald,
I had this rifle already listed in my research survey, so I must have seen it somewhere in the past. It is indeed in very nice condition as compared to the majority of Model 55 rifles. The serial number tells us that it was manufactured in late March 1928, just a few weeks after Winchester began serializing them in the Model 94 sequence. That last Model 55 (S/N 12002) in its own serial number sequence was manufactured on March 12th, 1928.

Big Larry,
Probably paid to much but 1500.00 plus 15% buyers premium. I picked it up and got 3% back for cash. I hate buyers premium. I bought it because I have another in not a good as condition and I think someone tried to convert to a deluxe. I’m going to post pictures and hopefully get opinions.

Not a M55 expert, but I think you got a great deal. I have two. One takedown and one solid frame and neither in the same class as yours, although, the solid frame rifle is very nice with little flaking. FWIW, I got my takedown from Larry Shennum, Berts friend. Thanks again. Big Larry
