I have long been interested in antique rifles, but have never owned a real one. After a couple of near misses on GB auctions, I thought I better learn more about what I was trying to buy. The more I learned, the more I realized I didn’t know anything. Originally just wanted a mantle sitter, still do. Didn’t want to make mistakes though. Any ideas on what to look for that I am proud of, but won’t lose sleep over someone walking off with it?

Welcome to the site . Just read thru the forum, and the Magazine archives, and soon you will be hooked too. It doesn’t seem anyone can stop with just 1. (or just 1 Model ) Maybe you will be the first with the willpower ?
