Hello,

Just wanted to introduce myself and my rifles.

My name is Shane and I am in Cen.Tex. I was medically retired from the Army after being injured in Iraq in 08.

I inherited several guns from my uncle when he died of complications from Agent Orange.

Always wanted to collect old firearms but never thought I would.

Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and that the New Year is full of prosperity.

Here are my Winchesters,

Model 1905 .35WSL manufactured 1906 ( sorry for poor picture )

1873 2nd model manufactured 1881 w/30in barrel and set trigger. ( yes sign is on backwards fell off and was not paying attention. Fixed now)

Welcome to the forum, If your 73 has a 37″ barrel its very rare but I assume its a typo, it looks more like 30. What type of finish is on it? The barrel and receiver look shinny as compared to the magazine tube. Is it nickel?

Yes, sorry for the typo. It is 30in.

I am not sure on the finish. It has some rust pitting on it and looks like at on time it had some light sanding done to remove the rust.

Unfortunately I do not have much info on this rifle outside the fact that my great great uncle purchased from the local mercantile at the time.

Welcome Shane!  I regret to say that you likely are now hooked on Winchesters.  They are a joy to have and shoot whether bright blue or worn.  And thank you for defending my Freedom.  BK

Thank you Bruce. I have always loved the Winchester rifle but never thought I would have the privilege of owning an original 73. To say I am hooked is an understatement! Always went to the gun shows looking for the latest toy to add to my collection. Now I cannot wait to go look for the old stuff!

And thank you jampard, and to your brother. I hope and pray that he that he feels better.

Welcome to the forum, Shane. Thank you for your service. Enjoyed the pics of your uncle’s rifles, appears to be the start of a fine collection.

Welcome, Shane.  Just as a long journey starts with the first step, a gun collection starts with the first Winchester.

Thank you everyone.

And thank you Big Larry for you and your families service! The factory letter was one of the first things I did when I received the rifle.
