I found this 54 at a local show. 30gov06. The rear sight has a leaf cut off. It has a western aperture on it. (Never heard of that one)The wood is uncut, the rear bridge untapped. Tall Lyman front. #36366A. Barrel dated 1930. This is a high condition gun with hardly any wear on the metal. I’d like to find a 6W rear sight and remove the aperture sight.

Nice gun. It looks as though the bolt was modified at some time in the past most likely to allow for the use of a scope.

Western is the company that later became Redfield.  It’s a scarce sight (not to mention being far superior to a 6W) & you’d be making a mistake to remove it, I think.
