Hello all. My first post on this site. I was never particularly interested in Winchester levers until I saw the amount of variations out there. This one lost it’s collector value, but I hope to shoot it often instead.
Serial 534754 made 1912. Buttplate has been chopped 1.5″ or so – I think a former owner wanted to put a rubber buttpad on. I’ll put on a leather boot to hide it. Also the sights have been changed. They are Marble’s with “34 N” on front sight. Barrel measures 26″ with nice bore.
Any comments appreciated, especially info on the new sights.
Welcome to the WACA,
Your new acquisition will make a good shooter or hunting rifle.
Looking at the pictures, are you sure the stock has been cut? Measure it, it should be like 13 1/2″ – 14″ length of pull.
It appears that the front ramp sight is one that is held on by two screws, one on the ramp and one under the dovetailed sight. If you wanted to, you could remove the ramp sight and utilize the original dovetail for the front sight and plug the two holes in the barrel.
As for the Marbles Rear Sight, I think it is the most common replacement sight that is seen on Winchesters.
So, Shoot it, Enjoy it, and take it Hunting, Most of all enjoy the WACA…
