Look what just found it’s way to My house, I think it’s going to stay a while; 1st Model  ser# 1439 w/ the original wood cleaning rod. I believe the gun was originally in the Harold Dowd collection and was purchased from Him 40 years ago and has been in the same collection until now.                                      20210415_161102.jpgImage Enlarger20210415_161118.jpgImage Enlarger20210415_161127.jpgImage Enlarger20210415_161253.jpgImage Enlarger20210415_161318.jpgImage Enlarger20210415_161417.jpgImage Enlarger

Congrats, Henry! That’s a nice one, and Gold Washed, is that what the tag says? Even having the wood cleaning rod is nice!

I meant to say gold gilt, but I need to get it in better light to verify that, but there is a fair bit of thin blue on the barrel etc.

Nice.  I kinda like that Colt too.  I will never be able to afford the Colt but I have been looking for a 2nd model Dragoon.

Is this Henry early enough that the screws are serialized?

The screws all match . I don’t think the gun was gold gilt. Ther was a very thin coat of varnish on the gun  at one time that is all but gone. When I examine it under very bright light I believe what looks like gold gilt is actually a tinge of color from the remaining varnish’ but yes it is in very nice unmolested condition and thank You for the comments. I sure would like to find a sling for it.

Very nice early Henry rifle you have acquired Mr. Mero – easy to see why someone would tuck it away for 40 years!
