The screws all match . I don’t think the gun was gold gilt. Ther was a very thin coat of varnish on the gun at one time that is all but gone. When I examine it under very bright light I believe what looks like gold gilt is actually a tinge of color from the remaining varnish’ but yes it is in very nice unmolested condition and thank You for the comments. I sure would like to find a sling for it.

Look what just found it’s way to My house, I think it’s going to stay a while; 1st Model ser# 1439 w/ the original wood cleaning rod. I believe the gun was originally in the Harold Dowd collection and was purchased from Him 40 years ago and has been in the same collection until now.![]()
Very nice early Henry rifle you have acquired Mr. Mero – easy to see why someone would tuck it away for 40 years!
