Stopped by the orphanage today to check on new arrivals. Seems I missed a nice 1897 Riot and a Model 52 yesterday along with a couple of nice Model 21’s earlier in the week but something caught my eye and I wasn’t able to put it down. I’ll always take a closer look at any Model 1912/12 and this one was certainly worth another look. I can find almost no wear on the blued components and there even appears to be packing grease (but probably not) in the hard to reach areas. It’s a 12 gauge, 28” Plain Modified barrel, Field or Standard grade. Nothing special other than the 28” modified barrel and the 90%++ condition.
Needless to say, this one followed me home!
Thanks for being an enabler and a second set of eyes, Bert!

Quite honestly I prefer a gun with character and unfortunately this shotgun has about as much character as the box it was shipped in. OTOH I’d give $100 for that box, a little more for the hang tags and manual. Sometimes I fall for “example” guns; high condition specimens in original and nearly unused condition. This one may show up in Cody in a few weeks!

Mike,Very nice. My local orphanage rarely has nice adoptable examples anymore.

It has been a long dry spell for me at the orphanage, buyer is having a hard time competing with auction companies. A 67 youth caught my eye but a poorly mounted Lyman 55R WS receiver sight and equally shoddy work on the sling studs cooled my enthusiasm. Maybe should have bought it for the sight or to loan it to my brother to teach his grandkids to shoot.

Mike,
this one just sold on Proxibid and would appear to be the same configuration you just purchased.
A very nice Model 12, congratulations.

Thanks, that is very nice but has a bit more visible wear. I like the wood better on the auction gun. I doubt the slide on my latest model 12 has been cycled much over 100 times, if that. With auction premiums mine cost a little less so maybe I didn’t pay too much after all.

Had a little dose of deja vu a little while ago while checking in at the orphanage. Found the little sister to the above gun, another 95% Model 12 Field with another 28” Modified barrel, only this one’s a 20ga. To sweeten the deal it was built the year I was born. No pics, suffice it to say they could pass for twins except for the chambering.

Maybe so, Ronald. It’s been a lucky spot for me a few times but y’all don’t hear about my dry runs. I certainly have been lucky, this latest Model 12 has been fired a little more than the one I scored in June but it was very tight taking down and very clean inside. A bit dry but that is an easy fix. Let me know when you’re coming, we can do coffee or something a bit more filling if I know you’re coming. Pretty impressive restaurant row between there and TMS. All franchises but a few are quite good.
