Folks, Let me split a hair or two here. Without re reading my Madis books, I will take the semantics used as they were used. One commented the long barrels were not “offered” after 1908. The reply was they were obviously “made” after that date. Those are not mutually exclusive comments. Going on frail memory getting apparently even more frail by the week, Winchester would quit cataloging features, yet would provide those for some years later on special order and based on available components in stock. Longer than standard barrel lengths would fit that nicely. Tim

That’s a good point. In the 1903 catalog it showed longer than standard barrel lengths available on solid frame 1892 rifles and 32-40 & 38-55 cal. 1894 rifles (up to 36″ on both models). A later 1908 catalog did not offer longer barrels on either model. Somewhere around 1908 they stopped cataloging this option, but would obviously build one for someone as known examples can prove. All this said, the longer barrel rifles are much less common in the later years.
