OfflineC.N.Co. is the China Navigation Company, a large global shipping operation , British owned and based out of Singapore Ibelieve. They have been in business since the early 1800’s and still going. I have been trying to find out how many Winchesters they purchased but I’m not having much luck. Harry

Do the obseved seriel numbers give any indication of the years the rifles were purchased, or how many different purchases there may have been?

Hello guys,
I have catalogued a number of these rifles in my survey and need to get up to Cody to do more ledger research. I have found these marked rifle associated with three distinct order numbers as listed in the ledgers. The first in 1898 and then again in December of 1902 and January of 1903. If all the rifles in the orders went to CN Co then there are most likely close to 100 rifles which were purchased.

So THAT is where all these beautiful rifle have gone to!!! Very nice collection! You know I am going to ask for individual SN’s and some detail photos of the stamped writing on each so that I can add them into my survey. Any chance??

Thanks Harry,
On 995384 it is interesting that the barrel also has a Type 3 address stamp on the left side just above the fore end cap. I have found this several times on these late takedown rifles. Winchester was obviously using up older barrel which had been stamped there and then adding the Model designation stamp to the barrel since by this time it was not included on the tang stamp. That rifle was manufactured in early April of 1930 and should have a Type 6 tang stamp with dashes on the bottom two lines of print.
Thanks again,
Michael
