I was doing a bit of unrelated online market research earlier this week and a very nice 63 (SN 171839) in Cabela’s Gun Library site caught my eye. I sold both of my 63’s in recent years and I needed to fill that hole in my modest collection. I made a note of the serial number and consulted the Red Book by my reading chair. I graded the gun at 80% from the photos and figured the asking price was fair enough. I ventured down to Ft. Worth this afternoon for a better look. It was a bit better than I expected, I generally don’t grade a gun @ 90% but this one makes the grade, IMHO. Somewhere around here I have a gun sock marked “63”. I figure I’ll put it to work again.

Nice looking 63 Mike. As I recall, the grooved 63’s are fairly scarce, maybe only in the last year. They bring more money, I’ve observed.
Thanks, and that’s correct, Gary. They apparently missed that but once again Red Book paid for itself. Larry (maybe Bert?) explained that very well in the text of the last 63 section. Last year of production (1958) of 10,000 rifles had grooved receivers.

Nice 63 Mike. I’ve found some nice Winchesters at Cabela’s in the past. I just need to remember to check their website from time to time.Al
Thanks, Al. They don’t ship between stores any more but I think they still ship to C&R’s.
