Interesting letter on that .38-55.  I can’t quite figure it out.  They refinished the stock – without ever having shipped it out to a customer?

And I love that Trapper carbine!  Wow.

Sounds like it was shipped to a customer, then returned (possibly because it was something they didnt want, who knows).  It was returned to Winchester, then sent to Russ (Russell Leander–mentioned in other posts here), whereupon the rifle was returned from Russ for whatever reason, it was then refinished for stock (stocked back in the warehouse) and then later sold.  Who knows, just a WAG.
