OfflineGreat looking rifle. I really like the configuration. The research form is interesting that it was received in the warehouse on October 16, and October 19, then features were listed, then it shipped October 22. I wonder if it started out as a standard configuration then a change was requested?

That was my guess as well. It existed until 16 October 1900 as originally listed in the letter and then a new barrel, magazine, and wood was fitted to the receiver by 19 October 1900. The mystery is why reconfigure an existing rifle that was only in the warehouse for less than 3 days instead of taking an existing frame and building that to order? Especially since the rifle went from standard to pistol grip, requiring the lower tang to be curved and a lever for a pistol grip to have had to replace the standard one?

OfflineI appreciate the insight and help guys. I hadn’t put much thought into the warehouse dates stuff, was just happy to see the letter say half octogon and half mag somewhere.
I did a little digging trying to find information to value the gun, and I stumbled on an old thread of a similar semi deluxe rifle that letters within a month of mine, also showing a repair and return. Not sure what to make of that. Could just be a real specific coincidence I guess- or, something to do with how Winchester was handling these special order guns?

OfflineA lovley 1894. It has a real classy look to it. I like the configuration.
I would like to know what the general concensus is on the condition of the wood. I am not knocking the rilfe, but that wood looks perfect with not a mark on it, from 1900.
Lightly re-finished? Brand new reproduction?
