All,
I have two 1894’s, SR NO. 777499 and 580553, where they both exhibit the same problem with the carrier/cartridge lifter. It fails to retract or go down far enough into the body of the receiver to a point where the magazine loading cover can be opened enough to insert a cartridge.
I have taken each rifle apart, cleaned, and reassembled and everything else seems to work fine. Just that the carrier/cartridge lifter does not go back down far enough. Simple finger pressure can move it down manually, but will not return to the same status once the action is cycled.
Any advice on this problem would be appreciated.
Regards,
Had the same problem with one of mine. I changed out the carrier and carrier spring and it worked after that. Either the carrier was worn down where the spring bears on its surface or the carrier spring is weak or broke.
