OfflineThank you, Matthew Wrobel! The 38-55 has been a perennial project for me, my shooter is only a little newer (1904) than the subject rifle. I’ve toyed with writing an article about my adventures with this grand old cartridge but at this rate I’d need another year or two. Some great reloading tips that confirm and add to things I’ve learned along the way and some ideas for moving forward. Well-written, nice job on the wood!
Great article on the Winder Musket, Bert! I’ve been interested in this model for awhile and this article cleared up a lot of areas for me. Nice pics!
I remember hearing about the Gopher Specials back in the 80’s and a bit more since I started chasing Winchesters so it was good to read the whole story, Lou. I think by the time I heard about them it was almost a generic term for a sightless rifle. Nowadays a bolt action rifle looks a bit odd with iron sights. I guess those folks in Minnesota were onto something.
