I have a very early Hi-wall, SN-6XX with a non functional single set trigger. The sear will not catch the hammer while closing the action.  need advice on repair parts.

Larry,

First, do you really live in Kingston, WA?  The reason I ask, is that is where my humble abode resides.

In regards to your high-wall, are you 100% sure that it was factory equipped with a single-set trigger?  Have you tried taking it apart and cleaning the trigger and lower tang assembly?

+1 ON CLEANING FIRST STEP.

I got out two guns with DST’s lately ,  a close coupled 1894 ,and a Schuetzen 1885. Both wouldnt work , so my first step was to drip in a couple drops of my bore cleaner Kroil/Shooters Choice thru the opening exposing the trigger bases , and a little blast of air (lazy first step )  and that cleaned away the congealed oil or whatever causing the problems. (it doesnt take much crud to foil these delicate systems ). Both worked flawlessly without a hitch

Phil,

I had to do the same thing with my high wall in 32-40. The set trigger would not work and I am definitely not skilled in working on them so I pulled the buttstock and flushed those parts with Kriol while working it quite a few times and magically it started working. I did have to find that sweet spot in the adjustment screw. A little too far one way and it would not stay set, and if I went the other direction to far it wouldn’t actually release. There just seemed to be one happy spot in the middle where it works great.

Gary

I know the adjustments are very delicate. I am always relieved when the Kroil/solvent works and I dont have to do anything further. I know the close coupled system the best and have had to make new little flat springs and service them , but wont take them apart for fun. I have the parts for a 92 , and couldnt quite get it working in a gun after spending lots of time myself, and couldnt get any one who would work on it.Spare parts are almost non- existent now. Lee Shaver and a few others may still be able to work on them

Guns that have them in any form are hard to find.

I love using them and am thankful when they work, making shooting a nice vintage gun even more enjoyable , as well as adding to satisfying accuracy
