Hello all,
After selling my spare set of charger clip guides for a Russian Winchester 1895 musket, a local forum member asked if I could make him a set because of how hard they are to find.
Since I now have a mini mill, and like to work with files, I wanted to give it a shot.
Turns out I didn’t have a 1/4″ end mill so I haven’t drilled and recessed the screw hole yet, but wanted to share progress.
I am using 4140 steel since that is what I had on hand.
Looks good! Thanks for sharing.

Thank you. I will update the thread once both sides are done, can be installed and with some more pictures.
I will need to make screws for these too. Doesn’t seem like 10-40 screws are being made anymore, even though taps and dies exist.
I will also share dimensions for these once I have confirmed the installation.
Excellent workmanship! Must be challenging to get the radius just right. Do you rough in the curves with the mill and then file finish and polish?
There is definitely a need for these. Lots of Russian muskets out there missing charger guides and I very rarely see originals for sale. I’m sure most were removed and tossed.

Thank you. I use a hacksaw to remove the corner, then file it into a radius and then to final shape.
If I had a shop and a larger (sturdier) mill, I would do more processing on the mill.
I only sand it to 320, then I use a carding brush to even the finish so it is not too shiny.
Thinking I will try and get a piece of steel in better dimensions so that in the future it will be easier to make many of these.
