Looking to restock my 1894 30wcf rifle, 26 inch octagon barrel and crescent stock.

Would prefer to find and original set in nice condition but also wondering who makes the most original best fitting reproduction stock set?

Hoping someone here has some knowledge on this.

Thanks

Don

I suggest that you check out George Peterson’s site:  “Treebone Carving.”  He has pantographed a number of lever-action gunstocks and in whatever grade of wood you choose.  There is considerable fitting involved, but, if you’re up to it, the results are spectacular.

I’ve always used Precision Gun Works for making replacements stocks (95% inletted).  Their stuff is top quality but the final fitting is always a PITA for me.  Wish someone made 100 inletted stocks.

There are a few places that will make a fully finished stock but they reuire the action or the whole gun sent to them.

In regard to the final fitting required , I am a little surprised that the Mod 94 couldnt have been manufactured with more consistency that would allow standard stocks to be just assembled that fit perfect, but I know from seeing swapped or replaced stocks with  ill fitting wood with gaps , that the ideal of manufacturing interchangeability wasn’t the case

I have looked at the PGW stuff and it looks good, but read on there that you have to use their crescent butt plate, is that true?

Has anyone used homestead stocks?

For plain straight grain reproduction wood, Precision cannot be beat, they have the closest fit. BUT, all will require work, none of them are a drop in fit. As to the buttplate, either will have to be fitted.

I am not familiar with Homestead stocks,  I know Homestead is a retailer, not a producer, so you would have to find out who makes their stocks.

The stock I bought from Homestead a couple of years ago were Precision stocks.  Same with Midway.
