I found out old antique clocks are cleaned with a product called “KOTTON KLENSER”. I use it with 0000 steel wool on wood and metal. Works nice but use it carefully as you can go through the finish.

Has anybody tried the new Snake Oil Formula #2? It has a little bit of dye in it but it works really well! http://www.oldwestsnakeoil.com/index.html
I bought a case for me and I wipe down some of the old dried out stocks at my local shop. Really brings them to life!

Many people have used this but I don’t recommend using it on valuable guns that you are trying to sell. The new buyer may not like what you did. Most any oil is better. It will always make dried out wood look better and not change the original color. Let the owner change the color if he wishes.
