Its a cleaner or bleach for wood stains and I assume it is not good for metal and you would normally have the wood off if your refinishing it.

Bob,
I think i learned the hard way,i was to lazy to take the forend off but i oiled up the receiver before hand but i noticed the next day there were tiny dark spots on the receiver by the forend,i fairly sure they were caused the the oxalic acid.it did do the job on the forend though.i imagine there is no way to remove them
