Nice information to stow away in the brain housing group.  Thank you for sharing.  It might be like neatsfoot oil which is rendered from the shin bones of cattle.  I guess there is not much there to protect them from the cold so what is there is different than the other cattle fat; designed to protect in lower temps.  

A common mistake in applying it to leather is putting on too much.  Anything more than a quick wipe with a cloth and the leather gets soggy.

Anyway, I’ll have to try horse next time I kill one.
