Hi All,
Testing out some 44 Henry ammo reloads led me to this episode on casting a chamber in our 1866 test fire carbine. It looks like I’m in the market for an 1866 carbine barrel or may have to have one made. Considering how badly the steel parts had been corroded and cleaned up, the frame still has a pretty nice patina. It’s a bit unusual to find one that’s been reblued, but not had the frame polished. Interesting video. Interesting possibilities. I didn’t know the bore diameter of the 1866, seems it’s one of those things that must be verified. I’ve always heard the early 1873’s varied quite a bit but have seen very little documentation of it. Maybe it’s the 1866 that had varying bore diameters. Any chance of sleeving the chamber and throat? Sounds tricky but if anyone could pull it off you’d make it look easy.
