I was recently given a 1873 Winchester in .38-40. The gun looks to be in great shape and I haven’t fired it yet, but have run snap caps through it without a problem. The only possible issue is that the trigger is very loose. It is loose at half and full cock as well at rest. It wobbles front to back and to a lessor extent side to side. I don’t know if this is an issue or not, but thought I would run it past the group of experts here for your thoughts. Thanks, Gil

Gil,

I assume you have a plain trigger and not a set trigger. The plain trigger is a separate part from the sear but pivot on the same pin and do have built in play to it. Its normal.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, it’s a plain trigger. I’ve just never seen that much wiggle in a trigger. Good to know it’s normal. Gil
