I did a post on this thread a couple of months ago about needing receiver screws for a nice 1886 that Bubba the gunsmith had worked on. As usual the guys came through with some good pointers ,advice and leads. I actually found an original hammer screw but could not find the rest of the set. So taking the advice of our more savvy members I was able to get the rest of the receiver screws that were “Spec” screws. I bought Three complete sets for the 1886. They were “soft” and the heads needed some TLC. Had a difficult time finding someone to harden them for me. Was given several leads that did not pan out and thought I had hit a wall. Frustrated I went into the Ahh S%*# mode. As fate would have it I also belong the Single Action Shooting Society or SASS. In their monthly “Cowboy Chronicle” was an article that showed a bunch of case hardened/colored screws that were exactly what I needed. Long story shortened I contacted the gunsmith sent him the screws and they turned out as advertised. His name is Mike Brackett. His web site is http://www.goonsgunworks.com/ and he has a Instagram site as well that shows some of his work. Really nice guy. He has plenty to do but will work with you. Cost is $20-$30. Hope this helps some of you.
Cheers

That’s good information to have. As to the “soft” screw’s heads needing some TLC, the reproductions always seem to have machine marks on the heads but the main problem I’ve found is that they all have the narrow metric screw slot rather than the wider one that came as OEM. Does M.B. also fix the slots?
