1908 Model 1894 arrived with a broken hammer. It appears one of the steps is broken off at an angle. Also, a chunk of metal is missing from around the hammer pivot hole.
Could a good gunsmith repair this? -or- Who would have one to sell?

The rifle is in good condition except for the hammer and the link. All parts appear to be original except for the link. Someone has scratched it badly in a cleaning attempt. Seems odd that the link would have been replaced, unless someone had two rifles apart at the same time and mixed up the links. Maybe the link was damaged when the hammer was abused? Doesn’t seem possible if other parts under there were not damaged/replaced.
What would cause the hammer to be broken as this one is?

For your viewing pleasure, I have included three of the four rocks(?) that came out from under the ejector spring in the bolt. One of them, I cut/crumbled with a fingernail.
Seems the post has two photos–I lack computer savvy, so I’ll not attempt to cut one out.
A broken half cock is the standard failure of a set trigger since its half the width of a normal hammer. The broken out pivot hole looks like it was very thin to begin with so it could of cracked from the hammer dropping on the half cock. I have welded up half cocks and reshaped them but the broken out hole would take a lot more work. I don’t know if 94 set trigger hammers are a plentiful as 73 hammers so I don’t know if you can find a replacement.

Today, I’ll see the best gunsmith in our area. If he can fix it, I’ll let you know. Otherwise, I will be asking you about your smiths.
