I’ve noticed something odd about the 87 I received yesterday, not sure if it’s an issue. The breech block seems to sit a little low in the receiver when the lever is completely closed but the firing pin seems to strike the case adequately. Is this simply a case of wartime production (1918 Third variation Winder Musket) or is it something that needs to be addressed? If it needs addressing how involved is the correction? Three day inspection clock is running so I need to make a decision quickly.

I think this is a common problem with the low wall and high walls that have been shot a lot. The links and pins wear and consequently, the breech block set’s lower than originally designed. I  have seen this problem with varmint rifles I have built in the past on these actions. It will not hurt anything, especially on a rimfire as long as the rifle fires consistently. The fix is to replace pins and and link that connects to the breech block. Have you test fired it yet? Unless it is severely off, I would not worry about it.

Thanks, I test fired it once yesterday. Fired case is on the receiver in the picture. I’d like for it to strike a few thousandths higher but I suspect it will be reliable. Should be warm enough here tomorow for a more comprehensive test fire session.
