Curious if anyone else has bought parts from this store.  I was on their website, which is very antiquated.  I found the part I needed for an old obscure pistol.  I emailed them, got an email back from Bob saying he did have it and price was reasonable.  I used the order form and submitted my information on Saturday.  Didn’t get another email yet.  We’ll see. With all the modern banking protections your card numbers are better than mailing a check.   I’ll be sure to update this thread about my experience.

Adam,

I’m always pleased when somebody else volunteers to be the canary in the coal mine.

I’ve not dealt with Bob’s myself but will observe that, sometimes, the old cranky guys who are less than digital warriors – running their business on the last functioning Apple 2 – have the best stuff.

I read the late, celebrated gunsmith and barrel maker Harry Pope did not have a phone in his shop nor did he answer the door. To speak with him, you threw a small rock up at his second story shop window, being careful not to break it, and yelling “Hey, Pope” at max volume. He would come to the window and scrutinize you. If he thought you were an actual or potential customer, he would tell you to come up. Otherwise, he would just close the window.

HAHAHA! Laugh

Interesting story Zeb, as I never heard that about the barrel making, and well known, enthusiast of his time!

I also agree with you’re “Canary in the coal mine”, statement, as I’ve heard of them but never dealt with them, but would be interested in hearing how it all goes down, and the possibility of a successful transaction.

I think we should support the brick and mortar shops every chance we get. As Ben can verify it pays off to develop a relationship with these guys. Most are a little eccentric but most of us are charter members of that club as well.

Mike speaks the truth…  I made it a point to talk to the “old timer” gunsmiths that I ran across…many were a bit grumpy when first encountered.  But over time they softened. As we became friends,  I would ask if they wanted me to look for parts / sights / etc. that they hadn’t been able to locate.  I would be given specific instructions.  I would call to let them know I picked up whatever they needed or, gave them the name of the place that had it.  I made it a point to only accept whatever I paid… my intent was to let them know I was a valuable resource.  As time went on, when I called to ask questions about how to fix something, they would say, “just bring it over”… soon, it would be fixed (for a minimal charge) and then we would visit and talk about fishing, hunting and maybe guns.  Most of those “old timers” are gone now, several of their spouses contacted me after their passing and offered the parts inventories at a pre-set price by the gunsmith.  I never turned one down.  I sure miss those guys… they all had amazing talent, some were wizards with a lathe & file.  Honestly, I miss them all greatly.  I’m now at the place where I’m the “old timer”… I must admit that I find it humorous when people come to me with questions… I don’t know 95% of the time… but I do try to point them to those that do.  Enjoy the journey, make friends along the way… and always buy the gun and not the story!  Cheers!  Ben

Ben,

I can relate so much here, as we could swap names in you’re storied history, and many things would surly match. I guess it’s just from a time period of how we we’re raised and have come up. I can surely relate.

Cheers to you, Our Collecting Friend! Smile

Mike,

You sure are correct in trying to support the Brick and Mortar stores, as we all know and see it’s gotten harder to do that. So many great past memories flashing through my mind here this early morning!

To update you all on Bobs Gun Shop.

I emailed him from the link on the website and asked if he had the specific trigger I needed

he replied that he did and linked the order form from the website.  I filled it out with part I needed and payment information.

after a week I emailed Bob because I hadn’t seen any emails or had my card charged.  He replied that he did send an email when he processed my order.  I just didn’t see it.  He had also been sick for most of the week and wasn’t working.

it was another week and my payment processed.  And another 5 days I received the correct part in the mail.

incase I added a week in there typing.  It was 6-11 from first email to 6-29 received

good experience.  I’d recommend.  Make sure you establish contact before submitting your order form just to be safe.
