I have a model 94, built in 1898. The cartridge guide apparently are not right. The gun is 30 WCF and the guides are a little narrow. I’m thinking they are for a 25-35. The existing guides are about 2.8” long and I can’t locate them in 30 WCF. My question is will the shorter 2.3” pre 64 guides fit this receiver? They are more readily available.
I have made a tool to successfully remove them, so that’s not the issue. I also have the ability to cut the existing guides down if necessary.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Seeing no one is taking a stab at this I managed to get my log gun going. It appears the 25-35 guide is a tiny bit narrower than the 30 WCF guide. I opened it with a file, but still no feed. Turns out it was the carrier. It was either worn or someone modified the left side of the shell guide right where the base of the cartridge goes through the guide, causing the shell base to catch on the sharp bottom edge of the left guide. I hope this is clear and helps someone with this feeding problem.
some say the 25-35 guides are the same, not true! I have a early 25-35 never modified that will not feed a 30-30. But feeds a 25-35 perfectly.
