Can anyone advise or know if a new hammer is required if my recently acquired 92 rd bl rifle won’t hold half cock. I assume the bottom notch(lower hammer) is wore like a 73 I had but I’ve never had a 92 apart or one that wouldn’t hold half cock. I thought 92’s & 86’s were pretty much bullet proof.

Rick,

All the Winchester have the same type of half cock as far as I have seen, the sear goes in to a pocket on the hammer. The issue is going to be the pocket on the hammer is broken off or the sear has been filed on and does not fit in to the pocket or a combination of the two. You going to have to disassemble the gun to find out.
