Looking to purchase this rifle. The tang screw is broken off in the lower tang. Can a good gun smith fix this?  And who is that good gun smith, maybe with an original screw?

Thoughts, comments and recommendations appreciated.

Cheers

Kirk

Kirk,

Where is the broken tang screw? I don’t see it in the picture. Just to the right of the serial number is the screw that holds the spring on the lever latch and that comes from the inside. Your picture does not show the lower tang screw which would be just off to the right of the picture.

The above picture shows the screw that hasn’t had it’s head snapped off from the base. The picture above it (the first photo) shows a damaged screw head.

Would like actionable information as to how and who can possibly fix it.

Your first picture is of a first model tang and the second picture you posted is a third model tang which is different and does not have the screw coming from the inside. Here is a picture of a correct first model tang. The only thing I can see different is that maybe the screw was replaced or ground on to put a point on it.

Kirk,

There is one other possibility I just though of, that someone put a longer screw in from the outside (which is more work) but you then would have to put a nut on the inside to hold the spring and when someone tried to remove the screw without removing the nut the head twisted off. Remove the stock and look whats inside.

Bob,

Now I understand the difference between the 1ST and 3RD models. I will remove the stock and see what is going on based on  your recommendation.

Thanks you

Cheers

Kirk
