Hello 1873 man, when putting the 1873 together the carrier sticks out of the bottom receiver about a 1/16 “, so that when cocking the carrier does not go fully up, thereby you can’t load without pushing up from the bottom.  Does this indicate a bent or worn elevator?

How much play do you have in the carrier? push it up until you fell it hit the carrier lever then let it drop. Don’t try to move the carrier lever you just want the play between it and the lever. You should have about .010″  with it in the down position. If you don’t have excessive play then its a issue with the carrier lever. Its probable bent down the amount its hanging low.
