I am attempting to add photos to a new topic in Whats New and am having difficulty. I can use the upload attachment but all my images come it at 3.2 to 3.9 MB and I then receive an error message. I can’t figure out how to resize them to load. Any help is appreciated.

Pat,

You need a photo editor to resize the photos to below 3 meg to load. If you have Photoshop or some other program you got with a digital camera might include a editor program otherwise you will have to download something from the web. The other option is use Photobucket.com  which is a free photo hosting site and it has a  editor.

There is a program I use for work called IrfanView.  Its a free program, but a little cumbersome to learn.  I use it to manage photo archives.  I can scale individual photos or batches of hundreds of photos to what ever size I want (file size that is).

If you have Microsoft Office 2007 (or newer) on you PC, one of the programs in the Office suite is Microsoft Office Picture Manager.  Select the picture you want to edit, right click on it, then select “Microsoft Office Picture Manager” which will open the picture using that program.  Click the option “Edit Pictures”, and on the right hand side of your PC display, select “Compress Pictures”, then click the radio button “Web Pages”, then click “OK”. Make sure you save the picture with a new/revised name so that you do not lose your original picture.

I could initially post pics on the site first two weeks. Then no way with all the different error messages I posted about back in the fall. Then gave up with no suggestions or help coming. I could post on other Forums and sometimes copy that image and post that back  on WACA, Bob helped me too.

I dont have Office, But have a Picture section on my PC that I can click on a Pic, choose EDIT then choose resize. Like I said this would work in the beginning for file size reduction , but after about 2 week something changed and no way for direct up load without sending the Pic somewhere else

My Question is why doesnt the easy, simple ,  standard PC  file reduction resize method work for WACA anymore (after the initial period), where as it works fine for other sites.

I am only an internet user , no need for Office or any complications. And as you can see good thing Im not a Rocket Scientist. I already have one in the family. My Son in law is a self- proclaimed Nuclear Physicist Rocket Scientist, ( also very anti-gun)

There might be a problem with your photo editor.  The WACA forum seems to accept files as long as they are under 3MB.  Are you sure you’re downsizinfg them fart enough?

Yes I can successfully reduce file size very small, by right clicking on the Pic, choosing edit. Then it goes to an edit screen where i select Re-size, and I tried many attempts reducing file size to many different increments well below 3 MB.

This way of reducing filing size does not work on WACA for me . Im not sure why I would have to do it going through extra programs like Office ( as mentioned extra steps, extra programs,  and middle men are not required on other sites)

Thanks

Phil

Phil,

When you resize the picture, are you saving it with a new file name?  After you compress it and save it with a new name, try uploading the new picture file.  If you are simply resizing it on you PC, then trying to upload it on the WACA website (with its original file name), you are still uploading the original file and whatever size it started out at.  When we first set up the new Forums, we did not restrict the file size, but shortly thereafter, we decide that a size limit was needed (to prevent using up all of our available server memory allocation).

Phil,

I am afraid to tell you that your problem is the OS… Windows 8.1 is a total P.O.S.

If you can afford to get back into a PC with Windows 7 do so. Otherwise, wait until Windows 10 hits the streets and by a new PC with it installed.  Your fell trap to the Microsoft trap.

Thanks Bert

I know 8.1 is a POS . So was the Initial 8 before I had it ‘upgraded’ to 8.1.The uncanny thing is I bought this to replace my Vista that was even worse.Would Apple be user friendly ? (simple ) ? My Witchdoctor tells me I cant get Windows 7   Im not sure why I can post pics on other sites tho?

Bart’s suggestions worked perfectly for me. I believe the big trick was to rename and save the compressed file. Photos are now entered on the Whats New section. All I need now is for some response on the gun illustrated.

Phil,

It gives you a sort of thumb nail image and you click on it to load the full size image. if You click it again it will open it in a separate window. This way the page loads faster rather than loading full size images right away..

Thanks guys  My 8.1 O/S is defiantly NOT  compatible with the WACA photo upload system. I think one of the biggest problems was at the ‘Add files’ step. Trying to make it easy and get access to all my pic files in one place , I was choosing the  ‘this PC’ selection. when I went thru the files this way and selected one and resized and re named, it ALWAYS came up error. Also resizing thru ‘paint’ with pixel reduction rather than % reduction may be better. ( none of these alternate selections were necessary for photo upload on other sites )
