I have been continually having this problem and previously noted it in a different thread with no solution. I have found that if I open the home page first, then log in, then open the forum (in that specific order) it seems to work much better. If I try to open the forum without being logged in it seems to not like that and gives me the error about 50% of the time.
Hope that helps.

I use Firefox and haven’t seen that so it must be a Google Chrome issue.

Are you using the Forum Login at the top of the page?
Yes, the one at the top black banner.

Spoke too soon. Just now it took almost 4 minutes to sign in. I kept getting a pop-up saying that “a website is slowing down your browser. Do yo want to wait or exit?” Once I finally logged in it appears to work alright. Firefox Quantum (57.0 64 bit).

Have been experiencing similar issues when attempting to access the site for the last 3 or 4 months. No obvious rhyme or reason as the issues appear to be random/intermittent.
Initially get message….A problem occurred with this webpage so it was reloaded.
Then, after attempting to reload:
Get message….A problem repeatedly occurred on “https://winchester collector.org/forum/“ and the attempt times out.
Should note that I access the site with iPad’s and iPhone’s using the latest ios update and this doesn’t occur with any other website.

Yep, That is the exact problem I reported several months ago and even included a screen shot of the message. I was only able to finally work around it by:
1) Not using a saved link or favorite button and going to the main page direct (which is a PITA), and then;
2) Logging in at the uppermost login button on the home page banner before trying to open the Forum tab.
I am not sure why that method works better but on some days that is the only way I can access the forum with my Samsung phone which is usually all I have available for access when out of town (which is most weeks).
Hopefully the tech guru’s here can find and fix the problem because it is certainly frustrating.

Had a similar issue for couple months using Windows 10 and firefox. When I go to browse the forum I get a yellow banner that says “A web page is slowing down your browser. What would you like to do?” If I click “Stop It” it will move me to the selected page. When I hit the back arrow after browsing the page I get the same banner. If I wait about 10-15 seconds it will finally move onto the page I want.

I bookmarked the WACA forum for a direct entry into the forum w/o using the drop-down list on the home page. This method freezes/locks up my computer 99% of the time. I have to re-start my computer in order to close the page I use Windows 7 and the latest Firefox for a browser. I d/loaded the Komono Ice Dragon browser and it works on the WACA page without the problem with Firefox. I don’t understand what’s going on but it only happens on the site.

Yes it has. I spoke with Rob Kassab about this exact subject, and recommended that we retain the original format.

Thanks Burt. I was considering asking about this shrinking problem, but thought it was just me. Glad it’s fixed.

Me either, don’t know who to thank but it is stable now.
Thanks behind-the-scenes tech gurus!

Anyone else having issues accessing archived magazines?

Seems to be the Fall 2006 issue only, takes me to a login screen them back to home page. Other issues seem to open without issues with no login screen.
Just another data point that may be nothing, but thought I would mention it. My father (who is relatively computer-savvy but not a network expert) lives in Columbus, OH and is on Wide Open West ISP (WOW). I was trying to explain to him how to find the correct DOM of his father’s M74 (I live in Los Angeles) that he had had since my grandfather’s passing with the lookup here on WACA.
No matter what he tried (he has a couple of different computers, devices, etc) he kept timing out on winchestercollector.org. I had him do a traceroute and saw that the request for this site dies on a dead IP address somewhere. It never gets out of WOW to the internet, let alone to this site.
I have asked him to try accessing WACA via direct IP address but haven’t heard back yet, but my guess is that the ISP has some erroneous DNS or routing table data causing an issue.
Googling the issue a bit I see others having issues with WOW and other sites, sometimes intermittently.
Not that that helps anyone here, but the on-again-off-again issues some people are having may vary by their ISP, which, unless WACA host and/or name server is propagating bad data is difficult to pin down.
Probably worthless info, but I thought I’d note it.
So for the time being, I am doing the lookups for my friends in Columbus, OH as none of them can get to WACA.
