I have a Model 54 in .270 , the rifle is in pretty good shape for its age. No extra hole drilled or obvious damage. Ive shot it quite a bit and hunted with it some. Ive had the rifle for about 15 years. I read an article I think it was in Rifle magazine that the model 54 had problems with the 2 piece firing pin breaking and the firing pin being forced back into the shooters face. My M 54 is the early 1926 model with the 2 piece firing pin.I cannot find the magazine article or any evidence on the web about such failures. Is this a concern or a urban legend? I only shoot factory ammo no handloads or surplous loads. Id really like to get the old 54 back to the woods but not at the chance of saftey issues. Im not asking for a sign off on the saftey of my rifle, just a question if anyone has info on any saftey related issues with the rifle. Thanks
