Hi everyone. I am new here and happy to be a part of this! I have been shooting my whole life, but was missing that one rifle in my safe. A pre-64 Model 94 and I finally got one. Won it on Gun Broker this week, so it’s still not in my possesion. But the one I got was made in 1949 and has a Lymany 56 sight on it. The owner of the store says it’s from a big collector and was the second owner. Claims that this particular rifle came custom ordred from Winchester with the Lyman 56. The rifle does have a slot-delete installed but hard to tell if it is actually legit this way from Winchester. “If” it was all original from the factory this way, does it raise the value of this rifle? I ahve searched high and low for an answer and can’t seem to find a writeup, or conversation on the topic anywhere. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone!!!
What is the S/N on the subject Model 94 Carbine?
In the year 1949, a Lyman No. 56 would have been a special order item. Can you provide clear pictures of the top of the barrel directly behind the sight dovetail slot filler? Also a clear side view picture of the left-hand side of the receiver frame showing the orientation of the No. 56 peep sight?

Just sent. Thank you Bert!!!
First off, I would like to thank Bert for looking into and informing me about my rifle’s past with a Lyman peep sight. Thank you Bert! So we came to the conclusion that my 94 was most likely tapped and died for the Lyman 56 sight way early on, as the markings from the buckhorn sight were very light. Was really hoping it was installed by Winchester. This is my first Pre-64 and the rifle is in excellent working shape and aesthetically pleasing. Big question is, should I feel this rifle was cheated? Degraded in a sense? This is a rifle I’ll be using in the field more often than not. The peep sight is what I wanted and also wanted the barrel stamped 30WCF. But I am that person that likes to know I have something great in hand. Do I look down upon this rifle as being degraded due to being alterd? Or know I have a real winchester that will serve me well? I’m not in the game to sell. I keep all my guns. Yes, I can over think things for sure.
