I recently acquired an 1894 SRC complete working receiver.  The serial # is 488754 (1909).  I need to install a SRC carbine barrel and mag tube, but am unsure of what the caliber should be.  I understand through several sources that the old 94 receivers would accept any caliber cartridge and all barrels were interchangeable on the receivers.  I would like to go with 30WCF since I have another 94 sporting rifle in 30WCF.

Does anyone know how to tell what the receivers were chambered for, or in fact, will the receiver accept any caliber barrel?  I would appreciate any knowledge advice.  Thanks.

Bill,

There is no way topositively identify what caliber the original barrel was, as the original WInchester factory records from that produciton period no longer exist. Yes, all of the various claiber barrels are interchangeable.

Bert,

You once again answered my question.  Since they are all interchangeable I am looking for a 30WCF SRC barrel.  I appreciate your help and I did join WACA.  Should have done this long ago.  If you have any resources for this barrel, please let me know.

Thanks again,

Bill

Bill,

Keep in mind that you need a pre-1932 nickel steel barrel. I would search ebay and Gunbroker for one.

Thanks for joining the WACA!
