I posted this awhile back and no one seemed aware of the “Five Pack” packaging. I wonder if anyone might have come across this type of packaging since?
The seller explained that after the “Depression Era” started a lot shops couldn’t afford to purchase a full case of shells for inventory, so Western made “Five Packs” available for stock. Good story, whether it’s true or not. I also noted they were the W.H.V. 60 grain hollow point loading. Thanks for any information you might have. RDB
Clarence beat me to it. Was looking at the photos for something to show me they were 5 pack boxes, but just see the normal 50 round box and original brick / sleeve. Think I got it now though. It’s not a 5 pack box, it’s a 5 pack brick with 5 boxes of 50 rounds. I have a 5 box brick of 32 Long or short Colt (can’t recall), also Western, the Western Bullseye Boxes. Not sure about the story behind these bricks, but they come up form time to time.
My father has told me on different occasions that he can recall when he was young, going into the local hardware store, and the owner breaking open boxes and just selling cartridges as singles. Money was tough to come by at that time.
My bad! Sorry for not being more specific Clarence. Let me try to explain. This box or sleeve contains five 50 round boxes of Western 25-20 W.H.V. ammunition. I failed to refer to the sleeve as a “Brick”. Because of the age of the cardboard (it has become brittle) I did not take out all five inner boxes which have remained in pristine condition. The 50 round box on top of the sleeve is shown as an example of the 5 boxes contained inside of the sleeve. I hope this helps your understanding. Thank you Matt74 for your post, I appreciate your info and help with my nomenclature. RDB
