This morning I was able to go to the home of a long time gun enthusiast that recently liquidated all of his guns except for two shotguns and his family heirlooms… his children have not shown any interest and he didn’t want to frustrate his wife with trying to get rid of things if he were to pass. We’ve known each other for quite a while, setting up at local gun shows. He told me that he wanted to sell me the parts and pieces that had accumulated over the years. We went downstairs into his gun room and there were boxes & zip lock bags on the table filled with vintage scope rings, bases, triggers, sights, screws, scopes and then I opened a large ziplock bag and poured these out… I’ve since learned that the engraved set is most likely by Griffin & Howe. Sometimes we get lucky…
Nice Score!
Safe travels to Reno, I am hoping to get up there this weekend but my schedule is iffy right now.

Come on guys. You are making me homesick. I did the Big Reno Show for several years, until my disability got the best of me. Had a table buddy who lived in Sparks, a short drive to the show. All of us stayed at his house. I sure miss the comradery with all my friends. It’s a bitch to get old. Big Larry

Absolutely! As long as your paying in silver dollars.

I loved the Reno show. Used to go 3 times a year. Haven’t been for about 10 years since my traveling partners have passed away. I’ve heard mixed reviews about Lou’s show lately. Let us know how it was. It is about a 9 hr drive for me.
Same here… for many years I had a table at each of the three annual shows, but due to people passing away, and the change in the show location, and Lou’s poor handling of the show, I stopped going. It was a 12-hour drive for me.

It is 7 hours for me over 2 mountain ranges where chains are currently required. If I can find someone to go with me to deal with the chains I will head up there, I am getting lazy (and thin-blooded) in my old age…….

More likely, acquiring the wisdom of age. One 18-wheeler jack-knifes, road is closed, you’re stuck in a winter-wonderland for the duration.
JWA, there is no way for me to get there without going over several passes. 395 is out of the question. One pass at 4000 and two over 8000. I 5 one pass at 4000 and then Donner pass at 7000.
My next show will the CGCA in Greeley, Co. in May. I will fly in to Denver then drive the last hour. No mountain passes.

Chuck,
I have the Greeley show on my calendar, it is about 11 hours away but have not decided to drive or fly yet. Denver in May can be snowing one day and 90 degrees the next day (and sometimes both on the same day)!
Hope to see you there.

It’s an easy drive from DIA up to Greeley if you fly. You can totally avoid Denver. Yes, come see us! I’ll have tables if you need a place to squat.

OK, I will fly, just booked it. And I will certainly take you up on your squat offer!
Thanks!

Yes I see the route but found out my first choice, 470, is a toll road. I don’t know if I’ll go that way? Not because of the toll but figuring how to pay for it. No toll booths. There is another way to avoid going into Denver that is not a toll route. Either way is about an hour drive from the Denver airport.
Chuck, I’ve been around the 470 toll road many times travelling to mountains from Kansas. No need to worry about how to pay toll as they will photo your tag and send you a bill in the mail, most of the time in 2-4 weeks. When I didn’t get a bill I never heard any more out of them. It was a real pain when 470 was first opened as there were booths to pull in and stop to pay toll every few miles. The booths are still there, crazy waste of money in my opinion.
